Prominent people like Kanye West have difficulty when it comes to supporting conservatives because the "old liberalism problem kicks in," American Spectator columnist Jeffrey Lord told Newsmax TV Friday.
"The more prominent they are, the more of a problem there is with it," Lord told "Newsmax Now." "He happens to be black, but the fact that he is black means the old liberalism problem kicks in and he can't say what he wants to say as an individual."

West told talk show host Jimmy Kimmel Thursday that he has supported President Donald Trump all along, but people told him that he couldn't say who he liked because his "career would be over" or he would be "kicked out of the black community."
"It's a terrible thing to do to anybody, but it's particularly pernicious with minorities, because if you are a minority and you come out for the conservative of the moment, Ronald Reagan, Donald Trump, whomever, they're going to go after you because that's not the way you're supposed to think," said Lord. "As if there is a quote unquote black or Hispanic or female way to say."
The problem goes well beyond West, said Lord.
"We've seen incident after incident, where just regular folks out there are wearing these hats or something is said, and the next thing you know, they're having their hat yanked off their head or they're being denied service somewhere," he added. "It's not good."
