Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper has joined Harvard University as a senior fellow of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at the Kennedy School of Government.
"Jim Clapper is one of the most distinguished intelligence officers in American history," Belfer Center director Graham Allison said Wednesday. "He has deep experience in leveraging science and technology to optimize intelligence gathering and safeguard our homeland."
Clapper, 75, who served under former President Barack Obama, said that the Belfer Center had "a demonstrated reputation for academic excellence and thought leadership in the national security community."
Clapper, who is writing a book on the history of the nation's intelligence efforts, is a former Marine and retired Air Force lieutenant general.
He also has served as undersecretary of defense for intelligence.
