Ivanka Trump says she has “great respect” for Angela Merkel and appreciates the German chancellor’s wit.
Her comments came in an interview with Bild newspaper as the Munich Security Conference was scheduled to begin.
“I have great respect for Chancellor Merkel and her leadership on the world stage,” the president’s eldest daughter said. “On a personal level, I also very much appreciate her company and sense of humor.
“We have had many positive opportunities to engage with each other. The chancellor’s dedication to vocational education and the economic empowerment of women are just two areas in which we share common goals and interests.
Trump said her father hopes to visit Germany soon.
“As friends and close allies, we share many issues of mutual important with Germany,” she said.
