Israeli Consul General: Sinai Peninsula Must Be a Concern

By    |   Monday, 02 Nov 2015 11:45 PM

Regardless of whether the investigation into the crash of a Russian jetliner proves to be terrorism, the Sinai Peninsula where the crash occurred must become a top concern, Ambassador Ido Aharoni, consul general of Israel in New York City tells Newsmax TV.

"It should be of concern to every country operating in areas where ISIS is active," Aharoni said Monday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

Islamic State (ISIS) militants have claimed responsibility for the Saturday crash that killed all 224 aboard. Most were returning from vacation in Egypt.

ISIS has not said how it claims to have taken the plane down, and experts say the terror group does not have a weapon that could shoot down a plane at 30,000 feet, where it was flying when it broke apart in midair. That would mean either mechanical failure, pilot error or a bomb planted onboard.

Officials for the Russian airline Metrojet on Monday ruled out the first two options, making a bomb the most likely suspect.

Even if that proves not to be the case, Aharoni told Newsmax, the area still is a major concern because of the presence of terrorist groups and criminals trafficking in drugs and human beings.
