The man behind the Islamic State's (ISIS) propaganda videos, which often involve beheadings and other executions, was killed in a coalition airstrike last week.
According to NBC News, Wa'il Adil Hasan Salman al-Fayad died in a Sept. 7 strike that occurred in Raqqah, Syria, the self-proclaimed capital of ISIS.
Also known as "Dr. Wa'il," al-Fayad was a senior leader in the terror group and served on its leadership council. He "oversaw production of terrorist propaganda videos showing torture and executions," Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook said in a statement, reports NBC.
A U.S. official told CNN that al-Fayad was one of a few members of ISIS who had "direct access" to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. That official confirmed to CNN that al-Fayad was killed in a drone strike when he was hit on a motorcycle outside a house in Raqqah.
"Baghdadi's inner circle was already small, and it's getting smaller," the official told CNN.
The news comes a little more than two weeks after ISIS announced its spokesman, Abu Muhammad al-Adnani, was killed in an airstrike in Aleppo, Syria.
