A border patrol agent on Tuesday rescued a Mexican immigrant found hanging from a border wall in California, reports Fox News.
Agents found the 25-year-old man at around 8:15 p.m. lodged between a fence that juts out into the Pacific Ocean. He was taken to a nearby hospital for hypothermia and knee pain.
"Let this serve as a grave reminder," Chief Patrol Agent Aaron Heitke said in a statement. "A smuggler’s sole motive is profit. When the going gets tough, they will leave you hanging, both literally and figuratively. Our agents will always preserve lives whenever possible.''
Nearly 70,000 migrants were caught crossing the Southwest border in November, a 64 percent increase compared to last November, according to data compiled by the CBP.
Some immigration experts predict those numbers will escalate under a Biden administration.
President-elect Joe Biden plans to reverse President Donald Trump’s more aggressive stances on immigration, though that effort will likely take months.
Susan Rice, Biden’s incoming domestic policy adviser, recently said Biden’s priority is to ''reopen asylum processing at the border consistent with the capacity to do so safely and to protect public health, especially in the context of COVID-19. This effort will begin immediately but it will take months to develop the capacity that we will need to reopen fully.''
