At least 15 Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers were killed or injured when fighters in Hamas' al-Qassam Brigades detonated an explosive device, according to Arab news outlet Al Mayadeen.
In a report Monday that contained information about clashes Sunday between IDF and Palestinian forces, the Arab news outlet said the blast resulted in confirmed Israeli casualties, though it was unclear when the incident occurred.
The IDF unit reportedly was inside a house in Abasan al-Kabira in Khan Younis during the explosion.
In a Friday post on X, Ultra Palestine, an Arab website, reported that "Hebrew platforms" were talking about a "difficult event" that IDF soldiers experienced east of Khan Younis "after bombing a building in the soldiers' quarters."
"Al-Arabi sources reported that more than 15 Israeli soldiers were killed and injured as a result of the bombing of the building," the account said.
An IDF press release from Sunday indicated that Israeli forces were in the Abasan area in eastern Khan Younis when soldiers from the IDF's Givati Brigade fired on and killed two Palestinian fighters.
There was no mention of Israeli casualties in the Sunday release or subsequent releases.
Newsmax reached out to the IDF for confirmation of the Al Mayadeen report.
This is a developing story and will be updated as additional information becomes available.
