House Republicans this week have begun issuing more threats to impeach members of President Joe Biden's administration, this time to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Attorney General Merrick Garland, NBC News reports.
House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, R-Ky., told Newsmax in an interview this week that Garland could be impeached if Hunter Biden doesn't face contempt of Congress charges after he refused to comply with a subpoena to testify.
"We know how he's treated two Republicans that were held in contempt of Congress," Comer said. "Now he's going to have an opportunity to hold the same type of justice with a Democrat that disavowed a lawful subpoena."
Rep. Matt Rosendale, R-Mont., also announced this week that he plans to file articles of impeachment against Austin over his failure to inform the White House of his recent hospitalization, saying that he "violated his oath of office time and time again, and has jeopardized the lives of the American people."
However, some leading Senate Republicans pushed back on the idea, with Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., noting that "We've got so many things to do. I don't think impeachment was something that [was] intended to be brought up every three months or every two months."
Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., dismissed Rosendale's announcement as him "trying to get attention," and said, "How can they do articles of impeachment when they haven't had anything to say about what's impeachable? We don't even know the details yet. Rosendale just wants attention."
