President Donald Trump on Wednesday emphatically exhorted House Republicans to pass the conservative immigration bill sponsored by Rep. Bob Goodlatte, tweeting in all caps that the bill is "strong but fair."
Trump's tweet comes nearly a week after he told House Republicans to "stop wasting their time on immigration" legislation until after the midterms.
The tweaked Goodlatte bill is one of two that House Republicans have been mulling and battling over the past month, and both are expected to fail. The second bill, known as the compromise bill, isn't supported by House conservatives, just as Goodlatte's bill isn't supported by moderate Republicans.
Early last week, Trump said he supported both bills "1,000 percent" after a meeting with House Republicans on Capitol Hill.
Republican leadership postponed a floor vote late last week on the flailing measures, leading to Trump's Friday tweet to shut it down until November.
