Three Republicans are competing to take over for Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., as leader of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, The Hill reports.
Reps. Jody Hice, R-Ga., Scott Perry, R-Pa., and Warren Davidson, R-Ohio, are all in the running to succeed Meadows, who said Friday that he is planning on allowing another member of Congress to take over the group of 30 staunch conservatives.
An unnamed member of the Freedom Caucus told the Hill that Perry, a veteran who represents a district that was recently redrawn and became more moderate, “will get the nod.”
“We have a good tradition of passing it along to new leadership every couple of years. I think we will do that in February. I’ve learned that if you hold on to things too long, it’s not good,” said Meadows, who recently withdrew his bid for ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, allowing his close friend, Ohio GOP Rep. Jim Jordan, to take the post.
