A new study of healthcare costs has reveals the CEOs of hospitals are paid up to $56 for every night you are a patient in one of them.
Among the findings by Axios.com, which dissected the salaries of the hospital honchos:
- Norman Roth, the $2.91 million-a-year CEO of Greenwich Hospital in southern Connecticut, gets $56.40 a day per patient.
- Thomas Priselac, the $3.75 million-a-year CEO of Cedars Sinai Health System in Los Angeles, earns $13.99 per patient.
- Steven M. Safyer, the $4.86 million-a-year CEO of Montefiore Health System in New York City, takes $7.14 per patient per day.
"It's a good reminder that the debate over the future of Obamacare has to do with insurance to cover the costs of an industry that operates in a kind of alternate universe compared to the rest of the American economy," says Steve Brill, who probed the costs for Axios.
"In many places, the CEO of these tax-exempt non-profits is the highest paid executive in town."
