Being a Trump supporter in the film industry has caused issues for some, the Los Angeles Times reports.
"In the '90s, it was never really an issue that I had to hide. I was always forthright," Gerald Molen, a producer whose credits include "Schindler's List" and two "Jurassic Park" movies, told the Times. "It used to be we could have a conversation with two opposing points of view and it would be amiable. At the end, we still walked away and had lunch together."
Now, he said, "the acrimony — it's there. It's front and center."
Some actors have used their podium time at awards ceremonies to criticize Trump, including Meryl Streep at the Golden Globes and Casey Affleck at the Independent Spirit Awards. Affleck called Trump’s policies “abhorrent” while Streep condemned Trump for allegedly mocking a handicapped reported during the campaign.
Trump responded to Streep by calling her overrated.
Andrew Klavan, a screenwriter based in L.A., said being a conservative has "harmed me professionally," He said producers have "called my agent asking, 'Why would you represent this guy?' Anything that lowers your odds is going to hurt."
Filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza said a lot of creative Hollywood has been "up in arms" since Trump won the election. "That probably doesn't bode well for any conservatives in the industry, especially the ones who are outspoken about Trump."
