The Heritage Foundation, in a bid to fight the threat of socialism and expand its policy influence, raised $14.2 million from a fundraising event last weekend, the Washington Examiner is reporting.

The conservative think tank’s Annual Leadership Conference in California attracted 250 people who, along with the foundation’s board of trustees, donated the money – the most ever raised at the event.

According to the Examiner, donors said they were becoming more concerned about the Democrats’ further turn to left to meet a socialist agenda.

Attendees were given a copy of the three-year Heritage strategic plan, according to the Examiner.

“Your gift to Heritage can inspire America’s leaders and representatives to stay focused and stay on-message, to stop bad policies and stick their necks out for good ones, and to turn America’s flirtation with socialism into a bad memory,” said the 27-page plan.

And Heritage President Kay Coles James told the Examiner: “Our team is committed to working unfailingly to promote conservative principles and policies that will combat the rising threat of socialism and educate future generations about the solutions that lead to a better life for all Americans.”
