Former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has changed his mind about an impeachment of President Donald Trump, reportedly saying an impeachment inquiry should begin.
In an interview with USA Today, Reid said the most important goal would be to "give the American people a view of what's going on."
"It's not the right thing to do nothing," ex-Sen. Reid said. "It's not the right thing to jump into impeachment without doing an inquiry."
Last month, Reid told The New York Times that Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, was "handling things the right way" with seeking witnesses to testify before seeking to impeach Trump — but urged caution about impeachment.
"[Y]ou don't have to go very far to remember what happened," Reid said at that time. "I mean, [Bill] Clinton was impeached — it helped him. And, you know, I've been saying that for several months."
According to the Times, nearly 60 House Democrats now support an impeachment inquiry.
