McCain: Castro Handshake Like Hitler and Chamberlain

Sen. John McCain has joined the chorus of those denouncing President Barack Obama's handshake with his Cuban counterpart —even comparing it to the exchange between Neville Chamberlain and Adolf Hitler.

Obama shook the hand of Cuban leader Raul Castro Tuesday at the memorial for former South African President Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg.

Asked about the greeting by the Takeaway's Washington correspondent Todd Zwillich, the Arizona Republican said, "It gives Raul some propaganda to continue to prop up dictatorial, brutal regime, that’s all it is. Why should you shake hands with somebody who’s keeping Americans in prison?"

"I mean, what’s the point? Neville Chamberlain shook hands with Hitler," McCain added, referring to the British prime minister’s handshake with the Nazi leader in 1938 after the UK agreed to Germany’s annexation of portions of Czechoslovakia along its border.
