White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham Monday slammed former New York City Mayor and presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg for his use of the coronavirus outbreak as a "political tool" for his campaign advertising and the media for using it for headlines against President Donald Trump.
“It’s really disappointing and it shows a complete lack of leadership but also it shows what the White House is doing and the focus the White House and this president has,” Grisham told Fox News' "Fox and Friends" about Bloomberg and his ads.
She also accused the media of using the outbreak for "clicks and for headlines," after an opinion piece for The New York Times referred to the outbreak as "Trumpvirus."
Grisham added that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., who is seeking the Democrats' presidential nomination, had "falsely" claimed that the White House has no plan for fighting coronavirus when the Centers for Disease Control "actually had a 52-page plan in place."
"(Trump) called for a public health emergency on January 31st. We started having task force meetings weeks and weeks ago,” Grisham said, pointing out that the administration is also coordinating efforts with state and local governments, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Center for Disease Control.
“We are very very prepared and we will continue to meet with and work with all of our counterparts to make sure the safety of the American people is the very first priority,” Grisham said.
