Reporter Ben Jacobs of The Guardian said he remains shocked in the wake of an alleged assault by Greg Gianforte, the Republican candidate in a hotly contested special House election in Montana.
"It's still been a surprising and shocking set of events, but I'm recovering," Jacobs said Thursday on ABC's "Good Morning America."
Jacobs alleged that Gianforte, a former technology executive, knocked him to the ground Wednesday at the candidate's office in Bozeman, Montana.
"It became something that turned on a dime into the type of encounter I never expected to have with a politician, and one that's very disappointing for what it means for the press," Jacobs told ABC News.
"I went from being vertical one moment to horizontal the next," Jacobs said, noting that he had no personal interaction with Gianforte outside of following him around on campaign stops.
Gianforte was charged with misdemeanor assault over the incident.
