Evangelical leader Franklin Graham urged Fox & Friends viewers on Tuesday to run away from the devil, ”because he wants to destroy you.”
His comments came during a conversation about Pope Francis considering a change to the Lord’s Prayer.
Graham, the son of the Rev. Billy Graham, said that the pope “might have a point here” about a mistranslation in the prayer, because Catholic scholars have closely studied the issue for 16 years.
The proposed change would replace the line “lead us not into temptation” with “abandon us not when in temptation.”
Graham said, “We do recognize that there are translation errors,” but emphasized that one has to be very careful when changing the world of God.”
He added that “I’m still going to say it the way that I memorized it as a boy and that my mother taught me.”
Speaking about the proposed change, Fox & Friends host Ainsley Earhardt asked, “God can allow temptation, but isn’t it Satan that leads you into temptation?”
Graham agreed, adding that “We have to understand that there is an evil one out there, there is a devil, who wants to destroy your life and my life… and we want to avoid temptation.”
Graham continued that “The Bible tells us that we are to flee temptation. Some people like to get real close to the line and dabble in it. I tell you just run, because the devil wants to destroy you.”
