President Donald Trump reportedly declared "the Germans are bad, very bad" during a meeting with top leaders of the European Union.
The criticism was aimed at the Germany auto industry's exported cars, the HuffPost reported.
"See the millions of cars they are selling in the U.S.: terrible," Trump said, Der Spiegel reported. "We will stop this."
The condemnation came during a meeting with EU Commissioner Jean-Claude Juncker and European Council president Donald Tusk, Der Spiegel reported. Juncker supported the Germans, Der Spiegel reported.
The revelations came hours after Trump publicly blasted the European partners in the NATO defense alliance, accusing them of owing American taxpayers billions of dollars because they have previously not met the alliance's defense spending requirements.
In January, Trump threatened to slap a 35 percent tax on German auto imports.
