Former first lady Laura Bush revealed some personal details about her family Friday morning, saying her grandchildren call former President George W. Bush "jefe" — a Spanish word that translates to boss.
Bush was on the "Today" show with her daughter Jenna, a co-host, and Meredith Vieira when she was asked about Jenna's recently announced pregnancy.
"I'm thrilled about the new boy. George and I are just thrilled to have another grandchild," she said. "As George says, grandchildren are the wonderful part about old age. The reward for old age."
Vieira then piped in and asked the elder Bush what the grandkids call her.
"Grammy," Bush replied. "That's what Barbara and Jenna called my mother and what I called my grandmother. I went with the traditional.
"George went with jefe, boss in Espanol."
Jenna Bush then chimed in.
"My dad wanted jefe because that means boss in Spanish and really, nobody's calling him a boss anymore," she said. "So what about the baby?"
For what it's worth, George W. Bush's Secret Service codename was Tumbler and was later switched to Trailblazer. His wife is known as Tempo. The couple has Secret Service protection for life.
