Sixty-one percent of Americans say they plan on watching little — if any — of the Winter Olympics, a new Gallup poll reveals.
Thirty-nine percent say they plan to watch at least a fair amount of the Winter Games. The opening ceremony will be Friday in South Korea.
Here are the highlights from the survey released on Thursday.
- 41 percent of women plan to watch a great deal or fair amount of the Olympics, compared to 35 percent of men.
- 54 percent of adults 65 and over, plan to watch a great deal or fair amount, compared to 31 percent of those 18-29.
- 20 percent of those who plan to watch the Olympics will do so online.
"Interest in the 2018 Olympic Games is lower than it was in three previous Winter Games stretching back to the Salt Lake City Olympics in 2002, when 58 percent said they planned to watch Olympic coverage," Gallup's Megan Brenan said of the report.
The survey, conducted Jan. 29-Feb. 4, sampled 2,228 adults. The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
