Franklin Graham is calling for a new boycott of Target, following an incident at its store in Chicago in which a man exposed himself to a little girl in the women's restroom.
"Why is anyone shocked? Target prides itself in its policy that allows biological men to use women's restrooms," the evangelist and missionary who heads the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association said on his Facebook page.
"On Sunday in one of their Chicago-area stores, a man entered the ladies restroom and exposed himself to a little girl who was at the store shopping with her mom. Customers interviewed were right — it's very sad. And it is so preventable.
"Call the Target headquarters … and let them know that you think they should change their decision and make their restrooms safe again."
He invited his followers to join a boycott of Target — the second-largest discount store retailer in the United States — which is being organized by the American Family Association.
Police told the Chicago Sun-Times the incident occurred when a mother was with her young child in the women's restroom and a man entered and insisted he had to go to the bathroom. He then pushed into the stall where the child was and exposed his genitals before leaving the bathroom.
A Target spokesperson said store provided police with video footage of the store entrance to help them identify the man who fled. She also said the "safety and security of our guests is critically important to us."
In early 2016, Target established a policy that transgender customers are welcome to use the bathroom and changing rooms that align with their gender identity. That prompted Graham to call for a boycott.
He also called on shareholders of Target to dump their stock, saying the store's policy regarding the use of its bathrooms by transgender people invites "sexual perverts into their stores."
The plea followed reports of a transgender woman being arrested at a Target store in Utah for allegedly snapping pictures of a teenager in a changing room.
