Francis Xavier Bellotti, former Massachusetts lieutenant governor and attorney general, died Tuesday morning at the age of 101 of natural causes.
"Frank's legacy lives on through his 11 surviving children, his 25 grandchildren, and his 15 great-grandchildren, who continue to honor his memory through their own acts of service," a statement from Bellotti's family read, according to Wicked Local.
Bellotti started in public service in 1962 as lieutenant governor of Massachusetts before going on to serve as the state's attorney general from 1975-87.
Before taking public office, Bellotti served as a Navy officer in World War II, leading a squadron known as the Scouts and Raiders, the eventual predecessor of the modern-day Navy Seals.
