A soldier stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., shot and killed his pregnant wife and himself Sunday, reports The Military Times.
Police say 31-year-old Staff Sgt. Keith Lewis, 31, shot his pregnant wife, Sarah, 34, at a Fayetteville apartment just after 7 p.m. Sunday.
"We are profoundly saddened at the tragic passing of Staff Sgt. and Mrs. Lewis. Our soldiers and families are the bedrock of our unit and any loss deeply affects our formations," Lt. Col. Mark Finnegan, 98th Civil Affairs Battalion Commander, said in a statement. "We are working to provide the utmost support to the family and our team."
The couple’s 3-year-old daughter, who is now in the care of local family members, was home at the time of the shooting.
Keith Lewis had post-traumatic stress disorder and had previously threatened suicide in a similar situation a few years ago, said Tammy De Mirza, Sarah Lewis' aunt.
“From what I understand, he drank, and when he drank he lost it,” she told the Fayetteville Observer.
