First lady Melania Trump has taken a nosedive in the latest poll from CNN following her recently increased visibility, the Washington Examiner reports.
Her favorability rating fell from 54 percent favorable in October to 43 percent in December, with her unfavorable increasing from 30 percent to 36 percent in those same periods. Just two percent said they had never heard of the first lady, and 18 percent said they had no opinion.
For most of the year, the first lady polled in the high 40s and high 50s, hitting 57 percent in May after she planned the first state dinner at the White House the month before.
After spending much of the summer recovering from kidney surgery, Trump has made several trips in recent weeks. She visited troops at military bases, read to patients and promoted her anti-bullying campaign at Children's National Hospital, and took part in a "Toys for Toys" event for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. However, her public call for the firing of a national security aide drew widespread criticism, as has her campaigning against cyberbullying.
"It is not news or surprising to me that critics and the media have chosen to ridicule me for speaking out on this issue, and that's OK," she said in November at a Family Online Safety Institute conference, according to CNN.
CNN polled 1,015 adults, including 919 registered voters, across the country by phone, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points among adults and 3.9 for registered voters.
