Gloria Copeland, a member of President Donald Trump’s faith advisory council, stated in a video saying that believers do not need to get a flu shot. "Jesus himself gave us the flu shot," Copeland said in the video, ABC News reported Wednesday.
Copeland, a co-founder of Kenneth Copeland Ministries in Fort Worth, Texas, posted the video last Wednesday, but the video began gaining social-media traction this week, the ABC report said. The video has 166,000 views and has been liked 8,100 times.
"I bind you off the people in the name of Jesus. Jesus himself gave us the flu shot. He redeemed us from the curse of flu," Copeland said in the video posted Jan. 31 on the ministry’s Facebook page.
"Listen, partners, we don’t have a flu season… we’ve got a duck season, a deer season, but we don’t have flu season," Copeland said in the video.
"And don’t receive it when somebody threatens you with, 'Everybody is getting the flu.' We’ve already had our shot. He bore our sicknesses and carried our diseases. That’s what we stand on,” Copeland said in the video.
"Just keep saying that 'I’ll never have the flu. I’ll never have the flu.' Inoculate yourself with the word of God," Copeland said.
The flu outbreak has led to dozens of deaths and at least 14,676 people hospitalized since flu season began in October, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the ABC News report said.
The CDC reported at least 53 children have died this season from the flu, including 16 last week, ABC News reported.
The CDC reported Friday that the U.S. flu outbreak has worsened, with hospitalizations at the highest point in 10 years.
