Facebook is rolling out its news tab feature on Friday in an effort to "do a better job of supporting journalism," company CEO Mark Zuckerberg said.
His comments came in an interview with Axios.
"We get that the internet has been very disruptive to the news industry," Zuckerberg said. "Certainly, we are one of the services that is a part of that trend. So I take our responsibility as part of this very seriously.
"This is an important moment in our relationship with the news industry and with journalism."
The news tab will first be available to about 200,000 Facebook users in the U.S. and will expand in the coming months, according to The Washington Post.
The Friday launch will include about 200 news organizations, the newspaper said. Those outlets include Fox News, The Washington Post, and BuzzFeed News. Some of the outlets will be paid for their content.
The Post noted the news tab will be a designated space where stories will appear selected by a team of journalists and an algorithm that will identify stories based on the interests of readers.
