Eric Trump on Friday told Forbes he did not talk business with his father, President Donald Trump, but quickly recanted and admitted he would update him on the "bottom line, profitability reports … probably quarterly."
"There is kind of a clear separation of church and state that we maintain, and I am deadly serious about that exercise," Eric Trump said during a recent interview that took place in his office in Trump Tower. "I do not talk about the government with him, and he does not talk about the business with us. That's kind of a steadfast pact we made, and it's something that we honor."
But less than two minutes later, he back-pedaled, telling Forbes he would update his father on the business: "Yeah, on the bottom line, profitability reports and stuff like that, but you know, that’s about it."
When asked how often, "perhaps every quarter," asked the reporter, he answered: "Depending, yeah, depending. … Yeah, probably quarterly."
"My father and I are very close," Eric Trump said. "I talk to him a lot. We're pretty inseparable."
The president left management of the Trump Organization in the hands of his two older sons, Eric and Donald Jr., instead of placing his business in a blind trust as he said he would prior to his inauguration.
Donald Jr. recently told the New York Times he hasn't spoken with his father in some time while Eric said he discusses more serious issues with the president.
"I also realize how big of a magnitude the decisions he makes and the things he has on his plate," Eric Trump told Forbes. "I minimize fluff calls that you might otherwise have because I understand that time is a resource. And that resource is important, especially when you've got the biggest job in the world."
