Energy Secretary Rick Perry is planning another visit to Qatar and Saudi Arabia to meet with representatives of the two major oil and gas producing nations.
"I'm headed to the Middle East later here — to Qatar and then to the Kingdom — so speaking of interesting, these are interesting times," Perry said Tuesday at the National Petroleum Council, a group of current and former industry executives that advises the Energy Department, Politico reported.
"But there's never been a more interesting time from my perspective to be in the oil and gas business."
Shaylyn Hynes, a spokesperson for the Energy Department, did not provide further details, The Hill reported.
According to Politico, Perry has pushed for Saudi Arabia to use U.S. companies to develop its nuclear energy industry ever since he visited last year and met with Saudi officials.
Earlier this year in Texas, he met with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, whom U.S. intelligence agencies have said ordered the killing of Saudi critic and The Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi.
Perry's announcement came as senators were briefed by CIA Director Gina Haspel about the Khashoggi killing.
Two GOP senators indicated they came away confident MBS, as the crown prince is known, was involved in the killing.
President Donald Trump has said he stands by the United States' partnership with the Saudis.
