Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., has added her preferred gender pronouns to her presidential campaign’s Twitter biography, making her the second Democratic candidate to do so.
"U.S. Senator, former teacher, and candidate for president. Wife, mom (Amelia, Alex, Bailey, @CFPB), grandmother, and Okie. She/hers. Official campaign account," Warren’s Twitter account now reads. CFPB stands for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that Warren had an important role in creating.
Politico’s Alex Thompson first reported the change, noting that former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro is the only other Democratic candidate to list their preferred pronouns.
Warren did not address the change, but it is common for Twitter users to list their preferred gender pronouns. It could come as a show of support for the transgender community, as Warren has been signaling her support for the wider LGBTQ community in her campaign. Recently, she reintroduced the Refund Equality Act, which aims to amend past tax returns for LGBTQ couples that were unable to jointly file their federal tax returns before the Supreme Court ruled on same-sex marriage.
