Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Boston Marathon bomber, has filed a lawsuit against the federal government over various restrictions placed on him at the prison in which he’s serving a life sentence, Fox News reports.
In the suit, which was handwritten, Tsarnaev claims that the government’s treatment of him is “unlawful, unreasonable and discriminatory,” because a white baseball cap and bandana of his were confiscated and he was limited to taking three showers a week. Tsarnaev, who along with his brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev killed three people and injured more than 260 in the 2013 bombing, claims that this treatment is adding to his “mental and physical decline” and is seeking $250,000.
Tsarnaev became known to law enforcement as "White Hat" after the bombing because of footage that showed him wearing one while leaving the scene, and he was told that wearing a white hat in prison was "disrespectful" when it was confiscated.
A judge said on Tuesday, the day after the suit was filed, that it is deficient because it lacks a "certified copy of prisoner's trust fund statement" and the $402 filing fee.
