President Donald Trump supports a ban on bump stocks and has ordered law enforcement officials to review regulations on the devices.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders made the revelation during Tuesday's press briefing.
"I can tell you, the president supports not having the use of bump stocks and we expect further action on that in the coming days," Sanders said. "He ordered the Department of Justice and the ATF to review the regulation of bump stocks. My understanding is that review has been completed and movement will take place on that shortly.
"The president doesn't support the use of those accessories."
Bump stocks fit over the stock of rifles to make semiautomatic weapons fire at a rate close to that of an automatic weapon. The man who shot and killed 58 people in Las Vegas last October used several high-powered rifles that were outfitted with the devices.
During Tuesday's briefing, Sanders said Trump will meet with survivors of mass shootings, including last week's Florida high school massacre, and their families on Wednesday to discuss solutions to the gun violence epidemic.
"We want to make sure that we're addressing the problem and we want to make sure that we're meeting and talking with as many people that are not only affected but play a role in this process as possible," Sanders said.
"That's why he's sitting down with the parents, the teachers, and the students and sitting down with state and local law enforcement officials. And then he's going to sit down with the nation's governors and bring those conversations together and look for the best path forward and do everything we can from a state, local, and federal level to make sure incidents like this do not happen again."
There was talk about banning, or at least regulating, bump stocks after the Las Vegas shooting, but action to do so at the federal level was not taken.
Massachusetts banned bump stocks in November, a move other states and jurisdictions have followed.
