Former President Donald Trump has a 19-point lead over his nearest competitor, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, in a straw poll on 2024 White House contenders taken at a Wisconsin GOP convention.
In the tally of 321 ballots gathered late last month, just under 53% (169 votes) of the convention members who participated support Trump, while DeSantis came in second with 34% support (109 votes), officials reported.
Vivek Ramaswamy came in a distant third place (11 votes), while Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley followed with only single-digit support.
The results mirror a Public Policy Polling survey last month that had Trump holding a 16-point advantage over the Florida governor. In that survey, 41% of Wisconsin Republicans supported Trump, with 25% backing DeSantis.
The WisPolitics straw poll also found Wisconsin GOP Rep. Tom Tiffany is the favorite to challenge Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., in the 2024 Senate race — garnering 35% support, ahead of second-place contender former Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke in second place at 19%.
According to Ballotpedia, there are still no declared GOP candidates for the Senate GOP primary.
