Raising the nation's minimum wage too high will leave the United States unable to compete with other countries, GOP front-runner Donald Trump said Thursday.
"You know, it's no longer New York competing with Florida," he told
Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program. "It's now the United States competing with Asia and many other places . . . Our taxes are so high in this country, and as you know, I've come up with a tax plan that's going to lower them greatly."
Trump also spoke out about Veterans Administration Secretary Robert McDonald, who told Fox News on Wednesday that the agency has improved.
"The veterans are treated so, so horribly," said Trump. "You know the illegal immigrants are treated better in many cases than our veterans. It's disgraceful."
He said McDonald hasn't done "much of a job," and commented that Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton's recent claim that the agency is being run well is wrong.
"I will fix the Veterans Administration through great management," said Trump. "And also, I put a plan out where if they don't get the good treatment they go to a doctor, we're going to pay the bill."
He also told the show that he has "somebody in mind" to take over the agency, and "if he would do it, I think he would be phenomenal."
