By    |   Wednesday, 14 February 2024 04:43 PM EST

The vast majority of Democrats would support state officials removing former President Donald Trump from their Republican state presidential primary ballots, Rasmussen Reports found in a new poll.

The survey asked likely U.S. voters in states across the country, "In some states, officials have removed former President Donald Trump's name from the Republican primary ballot, claiming that he is disqualified from holding public office because he participated in an insurrection. Do you approve or disapprove of state officials removing Trump's name from the ballot?"

Overall, 47% said they approve of state officials removing Trump's name from ballots, and of that, 34% "strongly approve," and 13% "somewhat approve."

On the other side, 50% said they disapprove, and of that, 42% "strongly disapprove," and 8% "somewhat disapprove."

Among Democrats, the vast majority, 78%, approved of efforts to remove Trump from the ballot, while 19% opposed removing him from the ballot.

The poll also asked respondents, "Should the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol be considered an insurrection that attempted to overthrow the government?" 48% said yes and 43% said no.

Rasmussen surveyed 880 likely voters across the country on Feb. 8 and Feb. 11-12, with a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points.
