Hillary Clinton called the intimations earlier this week from the Justice Department it is considering deploying a special counsel to investigate her a "politicization" of the justice system and an "abuse of power" if carried out.

In an interview with the left-wing outlet Mother Jones, Clinton decried the Uranium One story as a "false charge" and a diversion tactic by President Donald Trump's administration.

"Taking myself out of it, this is such an abuse of power," Clinton told the liberal outlet. "And it goes right at the rule of law."

"This appears to be the politicization of the Justice Department and our justice system," Clinton told Mother Jones. "This Uranium One story has been debunked countless times by members of the press, by independent experts. It is nothing but a false charge that the Trump administration is trying to drum up in order to avoid attention being directed at them."

Left out by Clinton and Mother Jones was, during his testimony on Capitol Hill this week, Attorney General Jeff Sessions doused the idea of a special counsel, telling House Judiciary committee members his belief the DOJ "can never be used to retaliate politically against opponents."

But the storyline gave Clinton her own diversion from last week's bombshell dropped by Donna Brazile's new book about her cozy deal with the Democratic National Committee.

"Even Trey Gowdy, someone who's hardly a fan of mine, said that there doesn't seem to be the basis for a special counsel and, of course, there isn't," Clinton told Mother Jones.

"If they sent a signal that we're going to be like some dictatorship, some authoritarian regime, where political opponents are going to be unfairly, fraudulently investigated, that rips at the fabric of the contract we have that we can trust our justice system," Clinton said.

"It will be incredibly demoralizing for people who have served in the Justice Department . . . because they know better."
