The Biden campaign Monday launched a push attacking former President Donald Trump and the Supreme Court's decision two years ago overturning Roe v. Wade, including a video with President Joe Biden quoting former President Donald Trump boasting that he was able to "kill" the landmark decision legalizing abortion in the United States.
"Here’s what Donald Trump says about your freedom," Biden says in the video, where he quoted a Trump May 2023 Truth Social post. "After 50 years of failure with nobody coming even close, I was able to kill Roe v. Wade.'"
Biden added: "Two years ago, the Supreme Court justices that Trump handpicked helped overturn Roe v. Wade. Decades of progress shattered just because the last guy got four years in the White House," reports The Hill.
"We’re up against extremism," Biden further said in the 45-second spot, warning that "Roe is just the beginning" of Republicans targeting reproductive rights and pursuing a national abortion ban.
"Send me back to the White House, and I’ll fight like hell to restore Roe v. Wade and protect American freedom," he said.
Trump has often taken credit for the Supreme Court's decision ending Roe v. Wade, pointing out that he appointed three conservative justices.
However, he has also insisted that decisions on abortion should be left up to individual states, rather than the enactment of a national ban.
Vice President Kamala Harris is traveling to Maryland and Arizona to offer remarks that focus on the court's decision on Roe v. Wade, while Biden is in Camp David preparing for Thursday's debate against Trump.
Biden's campaign, meanwhile, says it will use the two-year anniversary of the Supreme Court's decision, which falls on Monday, to blame Trump for the growing bans against abortion.
"Donald Trump is the sole person responsible for this nightmare," Biden said in a statement issued through his campaign. "For him, these cruel state bans are a ‘beautiful thing to watch’ — and they’re just beginning."
