The Democratic National Committee, through shooting victim Gabby Giffords, as well as presidential candidates Sen. Kamala Harris and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, are asking supporters to respond to weekend shootings in El Paso and Texas by making political contributions.
The committee sent its plea through a DNC email with Giffords' name and quotes her asking recipients to show their "courage" by splitting a $10 donation between her organization, Giffords PAC, and the DNC, according to The Washington Free Beacon.
Giffords' group, formed after she was shot during an appearance in Tuscon in 2011, spent almost $18 million on elections during the last cycle.
The donation link goes to an ActBlue page funded by the DNC, which says the contributions will be split automatically between the Giffords PAC and the DNC.
Harris, meanwhile, sent out a fundraising email Sunday asking supporters to contribute to the Giffords PAC, as well as the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, reports The Free Beacon.
Warren also made a plea through email asking for donations to Democratic Senate campaigns, saying that Democrats must "take back the Senate" in 2020 if the gun violence epidemic in the United States will be addressed.
"I'll fight my heart out to make sure Democrats win up and down the ballot in 2020 — but if we're going to beat Republicans and the gun lobby, it's going to take a grassroots movement," Warren's email says.
