Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., reacted to Wednesday's news Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., has brain cancer by praising the former Navy pilot and saying "he will attack this diagnosis."
"Since joining the Senate, it has been a great privilege to get to know and become friends with John," said Johnson, who took office in 2011. "He is a fighter, and I know he will attack this diagnosis with the strength and perseverance he has demonstrated throughout his life.
"Jane and I send our prayers and best wishes to the McCains at this difficult time."
Doctors removed a blood clot from McCain's brain above his left eye last week. CNN reported Wednesday night the 80-year-old also had a brain tumor removed during that procedure.
CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta said the type of cancer McCain has is "very aggressive." He will need additional treatment, either radiation or chemotherapy.
