CBS News, which is hosting Saturday's Democratic presidential debate featuring Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, is shifting the focus of the debate to issues of national security in the hours after the Paris attacks, the New York Times reported.

The Times quoted Steve Capus, executive editor of CBS News, as saying the network felt it was important for the debate to still take place but that in light of the attacks, the network decided to reformulate the questions to focus on terrorism, national security and foreign policy.

"It is the right time to ask all the related questions that come to mind," the Times quoted Capus as saying. "We think we have a game plan to address a lot of the substantive and important topics."

On Friday evening, gunmen and bombers attacked restaurants, a concert hall and a sports stadium at locations across Paris on Friday, killing 127 people in a deadly rampage that President Francois Hollande said was the work of Islamic State.

Saturday's debate in Des Moines, which begins at 9 p.m. EST on Saturday (0200 GMT Sunday), is the second debate among Democrats vying for their party's nomination in the November 2016 U.S. presidential election. (
