A top adviser and spokeswoman for Defense Secretary James Mattis is under internal investigation for allegedly making staffers run personal errands and then reassigning them when they complained, reports say.
Dana White, who serves as the Pentagon's chief spokeswoman, has been under investigation for several weeks after multiple complaints were filed against her, CNN first reported Tuesday.
According to The Wall Street Journal, former staffers allege they were directed by White at least a dozen times to pick her up from her home and drive her to the Pentagon during inclement weather.
The staffers also say they were asked to run errands for her, such as picking up pantyhose from the Pentagon CVS drugstore, lunch from restaurants and laundry from a dry-cleaning service, the Journal reported, citing unnamed sources.
Government ethics rules forbid supervisors from asking subordinates to conduct their personal business, the Journal reported.
White previously worked for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. She was named to the Defense Department post job by the White House shortly after Mattis assumed his post in January 2017. Earlier in her career, White was an editorial-page writer for The Wall Street Journal Asia, the outlet reported.
The investigation is ongoing.
