Limbaugh, the lawyer brother of conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh, is author of the new book,
"Jesus on Trial: A Lawyer Affirms the Truth of the Gospel," published by Regnery.
"Rush and I were raised in a great Midwest Christian family. We went to church every Sunday. Our parents raised us right so I'm not blaming them, I'm blaming myself for the message not sticking," Limbaugh said.
"I didn't necessarily believe in the God of the Bible…. Then, it dawned on me after I began studying Christian apologetics and theology that God has revealed himself in the Bible to us.
"All this time I spent trying to find out who God was … [and He] had been in front of my face the whole time."
Limbaugh said he came to believe that the historical facts stated in the Bible were true and had been "carried down to us" as they were originally written.
"I believe in the God of the Bible and it's an exciting thing to be holding that book in your hand, believing it is actually the word of God. It takes a whole new life of its own," he said.
"I decided to tell the story of my faith journey from a perspective of doubt, even though I'm not a credential theologian or minister. I thought I might be able to reach people that other people couldn't reach."
Limbaugh said he decided to speak candidly about his faith after "two skeptical friends" began to challenge it.
In the book, approaches the gospel with the same scrutiny he would apply as a lawyer to legal documents and finds that they ring true and affirm Christian faith and spirituality.
