Baltimore police are investigating a burglary at a home owned by Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., The Baltimore Sun is reporting.
Police disclosed on Thursday that the burglary was reported at 3:40 a.m. Saturday.
The newspaper said the burglary took place just hours before President Donald Trump launched into an attack against Cummings and the city of Baltimore. It was not known what, if anything, was taken in the burglary.
In several tweets over the weekend, Trump called Cummings a “brutal bully” and said the area of Baltimore he represents “is a disgusting, rat, and rodent infested mess.” On Monday, Trump said Baltimore “has the worst crime statistics in the nation.”
According to property records reviewed by the newspaper, the burglarized rowhouse is owned by the congressman and his wife.
Cummings’ office referred all questions to the police department and said he was not available for comment. According to the Sun, Cummings was in Baltimore last weekend.
