GOP Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Jeff Sessions of Alabama Thursday criticized President Barack Obama's reported plans to use executive powers to expand amnesty to 6 million illegal immigrants, The Blaze reported.

Sessions characterized the president’s lone wolf mentality as an "exceedingly grave threat that go[es] beyond anything we've ever seen in this country" and "threatens the very constitutional framework of our republic and the very ability of this nation to even have borders," Breitbart reported.

Cruz and Sessions have been two of the most outspoken critics of amnesty.

Earlier this month, National Journal's Major Garrett reported that the president met with more than a dozen representatives from "center-left and hard left" immigration groups, where Obama vowed to "set the most expansive legal course permissible to beef up border security, slow deportations of noncriminal aliens, and provide legal status to millions of undocumented workers—all by himself."

He has directed the Department of Homeland Security and the Justice Department to help make it happen, according to the National Journal, which also reported that senior officials have said Obama is looking into using executive authority to grant temporary legal status to some 6 million undocumented adults, similar to what he did two years ago for about 670,000 undocumented residents, between ages 15 and 31, who came to the United States before turning 16.

On Thursday, Cruz said the 2012 executive action was the direct cause of the flood of unaccompanied Central American minors showing up at the southwest border. He called it a "predicted and predictable consequence of that amnesty."

Sessions said that Obama must be stopped.

"We cannot allow it to happen. We will not allow it to happen," he said.
