U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Marco Rubio of Florida were among more than 100 senators and representatives who urged a federal appeals court to block orders by President Barack Obama that would loosen immigration restrictions.
The two Republican presidential candidates lent their support Monday to 26 states who sued to upend the administration’s effort. Led by Texas, the states claim the consequences of the orders, which could allow as many as 5 million undocumented immigrants to stay in the U.S., can’t be undone if allowed to take effect.
The U.S. Court of Appeals in New Orleans is mulling an appeal of a lower court order that blocked the White House’s plans until a final ruling on their legality is made.
