President Donald Trump will appoint a host of sports celebrities to his Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, including New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick and Mariano Rivera, former pitching great for the New York Yankees, Axios is reporting.
The website attributed its information to a source with direct knowledge.
Also expected to be appointed are: golfer Natalie Gulbis, three-time Olympic beach volleyball gold medalist Misty May-Treanor and retired NFL running back Herschel Walker.
NBC Sports noted that both Belichick and Walker were supporters of Trump’s presidential campaign.
The council’s main focus will be to encourage children to participate in sports, Axios said.
Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar will host the first meeting of the council,
