ISIS has not been wiped out, and the United States can't afford another message like former President George W. Bush's "mission accomplished moment," Sen. Cory Gardner, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said Wednesday after President Donald tweeted that the fight was going well.

"The bottom line is this isn't over," the Colorado Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom."

"We haven't destroyed it. Our intel community is very clear, we have to keep the pressure, we have to keep the work, and we have to safeguard the American people from this ideology and these people that wish to do us great harm,” Gardner said.

Earlier on Wednesday, that ISIS was "out of control in Syria & running rampant" when he became president, but since then, there has been "tremendous progress" made and that the "caliphate will soon be destroyed."

Gardner also commented on the ongoing situation in Venezuela, after Trump tweeted that President Nicolas Maduro is willing to negotiate because of U.S. moves for sanctions and to cut off oil revenues.

"I think we will work with our regional partners," he said. "Maduro needs to go."

He also on Wednesday called for a commitment by Democrats to work toward border security.

"We need to have a functioning government and we've got a couple of weeks for Congress to do its job that the American people expect it to do," said Gardner.
