Rep. Correa: Time for Congress to Work Hard on Oversight

Special counsel Robert Mueller did a "great job" with his investigation, and now it's time for Congress to work hard on oversight, and that means questioning Mueller about his report "line by line" in full view of the public and on camera, Rep. Lou Correa, D-Calif., said Monday.

"Our job in Congress, the Judiciary Committee, is oversight," the committee member told CNN's' "New Day."

"The Mueller report took two years, totally in secret. Now what I want to do as a member of the committee is talk to Mr. Mueller and [William] Barr and go through the report line by line."

Correa said while there are several Democrats calling for impeachment, the committee wants a full investigation so it can make a decision based on the facts.

"In California, we have a primary in about 10 months," said Correa. "We have an election in 18 months. We want to make sure if there is Russian influence, any kind of foreign influence, we put a stop to it immediately."

The country is divided over President Donald Trump, he added, and there is also confusion after the president at first called the Mueller report an exoneration of him, before coming back and calling it a "bunch of lies."

He added that "all the options" are on the table where it comes to a decision about Mueller's report, including censuring the president rather than impeaching him.

"At the end of the day, I will make my decision as to how I vote, based on the facts that I will see, based on the facts the American public are going to see on television as we address these issues in committee," said Correa.
