Senate approval of a sweeping criminal justice bill is both a big win for President Donald Trump and "really a big win" for people who have paid their debt to society, presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway said Wednesday.

"This is about workforce development, about education, skills training ands ability to get a second chance through the First Step Act," Conway told Fox News' "Fox and Friends."

"The president and Jared Kushner, my colleague here, and many others in the House and Senate came forward."

On Tuesday, the Senate passed the bill by 87-12, culminating years of negotiations. The measure addresses concerns that the nation's decades-long war on drugs led to too many Americans being imprisoned for nonviolent crimes, and did not prepare then to reenter society.

Later this week, the House is expected to pass the bill and send it on to Trump for his signature.

Conway compared the overwhelming bipartisan vote to another earlier this year, when all Democrats who voted in the House and Senate helped bring opioid and drug legislation to the president's desk.

"That's why the Democrats are completely disingenuous when they walk away from border security," said Conway. "This also is for the country. I don't know why they are playing politics with something like that."

Conway also commented on the decision reached Tuesday to postpone sentencing another 90 days for former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

"It looks like it's about the two associates from Gen. Flynn's business having to do with Turkey lobbying," said Conway. "I have not read into that completely it has nothing to do with me or the president. Let's just see how that plays out."
