Teammates of outspoken San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick reportedly want him to take over as the team's offensive leader.
Current starter Blaine Gabbert has overseen three straight losses as center, and Bleacher Report reported, citing unnamed sources, teammates now want Kaepernick under center.
Chip Kelly, 49ers head coach, is still backing Gabbert, Mediate reported.
"I thought Blaine played well [Sunday], to be honest with you, besides that one throw and, again, I have to see the film," Kelly said after the loss to the Dallas Cowboys. "I don't know if he had a chance to step up in the pocket and make the throw, but besides that, I thought Blaine played a good game."
Bleacher Report has reported 49ers general manager Trent Baalke wanted to cut Kaepernick before the start of the season, but Kelly strongly opposed his release.
